Billions of euro investments in Burghausen

In order to remain at the top in the future, the companies located in Burghausen plan to make investments amounting to some €2 billion by 2015. With around €4.5 billion in total made since 2006 and planned until 2015, Burghausen and its region are an investment focal point of international magnitude.

The focus of the investment activity is on the industrial location where Burghausen chemical companies already invested more than €2.5 billion in the construction and expansion of new production plants between 2006 and 2009/2010. ‘Highlights’ include what was then the first European metathesis plant at the refinery plant of OMV Deutschland (€600 million investment) and the expansion of polysilicon production and further plants at the site of Wacker Chemie AG in Burghausen (approx. €2 billion investment).

Current and planned investments

By 2015, the current and ongoing investment measures at the Burghausen business location will amount to around €2 billion. As well as the link to the West European ethylene supply network via the new Ethylene Pipeline South (EPS, €220 million investment, completed in July 2013) that is important for the entire Bavarian chemical triangle and the chemical location of Burghausen, further major investment projects are also in progress (see Facts & figures): The focus of these investment activities is also on the chemical industry and the service-companies that are connected with the chemical sites in Burghausen.

However, the prevailing investment activity at the business location of Burghausen is also reflected in the retail sector (Salzach-Zentrum shopping mall, €65 million investment) and the expansion of logistics (Burghausen container terminal, approx. €30 million investment).
