Burghausen – one of Bavaria’s wealthiest communities

Burghausen is southeast Bavaria’s most successful business and innovation location and ranks among the Free State’s wealthiest communities.

The town’s annual GDP is around €9 billion and is largely generated with chemical and petrochemical products and with the economic performance of a large number of small, medium-sized and large trading, commercial and industrial enterprises, service providers and suppliers.

In terms of revenue-raising power Burghausen comes top in Bavaria with around €3,600 per inhabitant.

Net taxes: Burghausen in the top ten of Bavaria

Among the 191 parishes and towns with a population above 10,000 that form part of a larger administrative district, Burghausen (approx. 20,000 inhabitants) achieved the top ranking in the whole of Bavaria in 2010 in terms of tax income. In terms of its budget volume the town on the Salzach came third with €137 million after Neu-Ulm (€142 million/53,000 inhabitants) and Munich-Grünwald (€359 million/11,000 inhabitants – high density of millionaires).

Compared with the 25 unitary authority towns and cities with between 40,000 and 1.3 million inhabitants throughout the whole of Bavaria Burghausen comes into top ten in terms of net tax revenues.
