The boom-like expansion of the chemical and refinery enterprises located in Burghausen and the settlement of the service providers linked to these put the onus on Burghausen Town Council to develop growth and expansion space for the future as part of a masterplan – the northern industrial estate.

On a section of the overall space amounting to around 82 hectares, a public terminal for combined transport (container terminal) will be established from 2012 to cope with the logistic challenges posed by the growth location of Burghausen. This will be adjoined by a new industrial park site comprising service companies for the container terminal and industry and for the operator of the terminal.

Furthermore, reserve industrial space for production expansions of the chemical and refinery companies is envisaged.
